However, a tripod is bulky and usually is strapped to our backs, so it is not always the most convenient device. A tripod will work fine when you are in a situation where you are setting up for a planned shot. But what happens if you are walking in nature and suddenly see a special shot possibility right in front of you? If you try to unsling your tripod, you might lose the opportunity (if it involves animals, for example).

This is why many photographers have come to rely on the monopod in these sorts of situations. Many serious shooters have come to rely on the monopod when shooting nature or even sports, and also landscape and travel photography. The monopod is much more easier to deal with quickly than a tripod, so you will probably find that you will come to rely on it even more than a tripod.

First, try a shutter speed that is longer. Many people never bother to explore the many setting adjustments you can make on a pocket camera. You definitely have the ability to lengthen your exposures on most cameras. Even if your point and shoot does not have a shutter speed option, you probably can switch to a night scenes setting. This will let you set shutter speeds for longer than usual. On some cameras, you can change the night scenes function to open the shutter as long as 30 seconds!

Second, you should always try to take several takes of your picture with different shutter speeds. If you are shooting at night, there will be little light, but your camera will adjust its aperture to bring in more light and you also can adjust your shutter speed.
